5G is included on every Flex Mobile plan at no extra cost. This page covers what to expect from it and what to do if you aren't getting it.
What 5G gives you
5G is the fifth generation of mobile network technology. In practice it means faster downloads, lower latency and a steadier connection than 4G LTE in the same place.
Typical speeds
- 5G: 75 to 335 Mbps download, 8 to 35 Mbps upload, 21 to 35 ms latency.
- 4G LTE: 4 to 35 Mbps download, 3 to 17 Mbps upload, 24 to 40 ms latency.
These are typical ranges in covered areas. Your actual speed depends on your phone, where you are and how busy the network is.
What you need for 5G
A phone that supports 5G, and 5G coverage in your area. Check your zip code on the coverage page to see whether 5G has reached you.
If your phone shows 4G instead of 5G
Either 5G isn't available where you're standing, or your phone is set to prefer LTE. Check your phone's mobile network settings for a voice and data option and make sure 5G is allowed. Then restart the phone.
Speed after your high speed allowance
On Flex Unlimited you get full speed up to 35 GB in a cycle, and on Flex Unlimited Plus up to 50 GB. Past that your speed is reduced for the rest of the cycle, whether you're on 5G or 4G. Video streams at up to 480p on every plan. Flex Standard is different again: its 5 GB stops when it runs out rather than slowing.
