A hotspot shares your phone's mobile data with a laptop, tablet or another phone.
Which plans include it
All unlimited plans include hotspot. On plans with a set amount of data it isn't always included, so check your plan.
Unlimited hotspot doesn't mean a separate allowance. Whatever you use through hotspot comes out of the same data as everything else on the phone, so a laptop streaming over your hotspot spends it just as quickly. Heavy hotspot use brings the speed reduction sooner.
Turn it on, iPhone
- Open Settings and tap Personal Hotspot.
- Turn on Allow Others to Join.
- Note the wifi password shown, or tap it to set your own.
- On your other device, pick your iPhone's name from the wifi list and enter that password. Your iPhone shows a blue banner while a device is connected.
Turn it on, Android
- Open Settings and go to Network & internet, or Connections on Samsung.
- Tap Hotspot & tethering, then Wi-Fi hotspot or Mobile Hotspot.
- Turn it on and check the network name and password.
- Connect your other device using that name and password. A hotspot icon appears in your status bar.
Keep an eye on usage
Laptops use far more data than phones. Software updates, cloud backups and video calls can move several gigabytes without you noticing. Pause automatic updates on the connected device before a long session.
If the hotspot won't turn on
Confirm your mobile data is working on the phone itself, then restart. If you are on Flex Standard, contact support to check what applies to your line before troubleshooting further.
What isn't allowed
Hotspot is for your own devices. Modems, gateways and automated relay equipment aren't permitted on the network and can result in service being terminated.
If it still will not start
Contact Flex Mobile support with your plan name and what the hotspot screen shows, and they can check the line from their side.
