Slow data usually has a cause you can identify in a minute. Start with the two most likely and work down.
Have you passed your high speed allowance?
This is the most common answer on the unlimited plans. Some of them have a set amount of full-speed data, and after that your speed is reduced until the cycle renews.
On plans with a set amount of data slow data is not the symptom you would get. Its 5 GB stops when it runs out rather than slowing, so if data is slow on Flex Standard the cause is something else on this page.
Check your data usage to see where you are. If that's the cause, you can wait for the reset or buy a top-up.
Is the network busy?
During busy periods traffic can be deprioritized, which slows things temporarily. Crowded places like stadiums, airports and city centres at rush hour are where you'll notice it. It clears as demand falls.
Is it your signal?
One or two bars means your phone is working harder for a weaker connection. Move outdoors or toward a window and test again. Buildings, basements and lifts block signal on any carrier.
Quick fixes worth trying
- Turn airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off.
- Restart your phone.
- Close apps running in the background that use data continuously.
- Run a speed test, then repeat it somewhere else. Comparing two locations tells you whether the problem is your area or your phone.
About video quality
Video streams at up to 480p on every Flex Mobile plan at all times. If video looks softer than you expect but everything else is fine, that's the plan working as designed, not a fault.
If it's slow everywhere, all the time
Reset your network settings, then contact Flex Mobile support with speed test results from two different locations.
