Upgrading to a new iPhone doesn't mean losing your Flex Mobile plan. Apple can move the eSIM across during setup, and your number, plan and remaining term come with it.
Before you start
- Your new iPhone is unlocked and supports eSIM.
- Your old iPhone is connected to wifi or cellular and still working.
- You have your Apple Account details to hand.
- Keep the old iPhone nearby until the transfer is finished.
Step 1: back up your old iPhone
- Open Settings on the old iPhone and tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud, then iCloud Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now and wait for it to finish.
Step 2: set up the new iPhone
- Turn on the new iPhone and follow the on screen setup.
- When asked, choose Transfer from iPhone if both phones are together, or Restore from iCloud Backup.
- Sign in with your Apple Account and pick the most recent backup.
Step 3: move the eSIM
- Watch for a prompt on the new iPhone to transfer your cellular plan.
- Select your Flex Mobile line and follow the instructions to confirm.
- If no prompt appears, open Settings, tap Cellular, then Add eSIM, and choose the option to transfer from another iPhone.
- The Flex Mobile line appears in your plan list on the new iPhone with signal bars, and is removed from the old one.
Step 4: check it works
- Make a test call.
- Send a test text.
- Turn wifi off briefly and open a webpage to confirm mobile data is working.
Don't wipe the old iPhone yet
Wait until you've confirmed calls, texts and data all work on the new phone. If the eSIM transfer needs redoing, having the old phone still set up makes it far easier.
If the transfer option never appears
Your eSIM can be reissued instead. Contact Flex Mobile support for a new activation code, then install it on the new iPhone. See the article on deleting and reinstalling your eSIM.
