Dropped calls and poor audio nearly always come down to signal strength or the handover between networks. Here's how to improve both.
Check your signal where it happens
Note whether it's one place or everywhere. Calls that drop in the same spot every time point at coverage in that spot, not at your phone or your plan. Check your zip code on the Flex Mobile coverage page.
Turn on wifi calling
This is the single most effective fix for dropped calls at home or at work. Your call runs over wifi instead of a weak mobile signal. It's included on every Flex Mobile plan.
One thing to know: if you walk out of wifi range mid call, the call has to hand over to the mobile network, and if the mobile signal is very weak it can drop at that moment. Stay in range while on a wifi call where you can.
If the audio is choppy or robotic
- Take your phone off speaker and try again, since speakerphone exaggerates a marginal connection.
- Disconnect Bluetooth headphones or a car system and test with the phone directly. Bluetooth is a common cause of poor call audio.
- Clean the earpiece grille at the top of the screen with a soft dry brush.
- Move away from other electronics and toward a window.
If it started recently
- Restart your phone.
- Install any pending software update, then restart again.
- Reset your network settings if the problem continues.
If it happens everywhere
Contact Flex Mobile support with the times and places it happens, whether wifi calling was on, and whether Bluetooth was connected. That combination usually identifies the cause quickly.
