Texting problems are usually one of three things: signal, the wrong messaging service, or a setting on your phone. Here's how to tell which.
The quick checks
- Check airplane mode is off and your status bar shows signal bars.
- Turn airplane mode on for ten seconds and off again.
- Restart your phone and wait up to two minutes.
- Send a test text to a number you know works.
If it's only certain people, on iPhone
Blue bubbles are iMessage, which travels over data or wifi. Green bubbles are regular texts over the mobile network. If blue messages work and green ones don't, the problem is with regular texting, not with your data.
Toggle iMessage off and on in Settings, then Apps, then Messages. Also check Send as SMS is on, so messages fall back to a regular text when iMessage can't get through.
If it's only picture messages
Picture and group messages need mobile data to send, even on wifi. Check mobile data is on and MMS messaging is enabled in your messaging settings.
If you can send but not receive
- Check your blocked numbers list.
- Check the message isn't landing in a filtered or unknown senders folder.
- Ask the sender to confirm what they're seeing, since a failure at their end looks identical at yours.
If you're mid number transfer
Texts continue arriving on your old carrier until the transfer completes. That's expected, and it resolves itself.
If none of that works
Reset your network settings, then contact Flex Mobile support. Tell them whether it affects sending, receiving, one contact or everyone.
