Activating your eSIM puts your Flex Mobile service straight onto your iPhone, with no card to insert. It takes a few minutes and you can do it from anywhere with wifi.
Before you start
- Your iPhone is unlocked and running iOS 14.1 or newer.
- Your iPhone is connected to wifi, since your Flex Mobile data isn't live yet.
- You have your eSIM QR code, either in your activation email or in your Flex Mobile account.
- If you can, open the QR code on a second screen such as a computer, so you can scan it with the iPhone.
Install your eSIM
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Cellular.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Tap Use QR Code.
- Point your iPhone camera at the QR code. Your iPhone reads it and shows an Activate eSIM screen.
- Tap Continue and follow the prompts. Activation takes a minute or two, and your iPhone tells you when the plan is ready.
- Give the line a label, such as Flex Mobile, so you can tell it apart from any other line on the phone.
- If you're asked which line to use for calls and which for data, tap Flex Mobile for both, unless you're keeping a second line for something specific.
Confirm it worked
Go back to Settings, then Cellular. Flex Mobile appears in your list of plans and shows as turned on. Your status bar shows signal bars rather than No Service or SOS.
If you're transferring your number from another carrier, your Flex Mobile line may show as active before the number finishes moving. That's normal, and your old service keeps working until the transfer completes.
If it doesn't work
The most common causes are a QR code that's already been used, a phone that's still locked to another carrier, or a dropped wifi connection partway through. Work through the eSIM install troubleshooter, and contact Flex Mobile support if you're still stuck.
